Transfer rollers or end rollers may be used at each end of a conveyor to facilitate transfer support of product to/from other process machinery. Rotating end rolls are recommended because they create less belt wear. Grooved end rolls or free turning transfer rolls should be used where possible to ensure positive tracking and minimize wear at the belt joints. For the tightest transfer requirements, a grooved nosebar is typically used instead of rollers to keep the belt tracking properly.
Belt Model
Wire Belt Company will custom build stainless steel grooved end rolls, plastic nosebars and stainless steel shafts to your specifications. Wire Belt also offers the following standard bushings and transfer support rollers to help assure trouble free conveyor operation.
Wear Strips
The support required for Flat-Flex belts depends on the load carried, type of product conveyed, and the process. If the belt needs to be fully supported, Wire Belt Company can custom build for your application a slider bed of longitudinal rails. Ultra-High Molecular Weight (UHMW) polyethylene bars are typically used in applications with temperatures up to 120F. At higher temperatures, stainless steel rods or high temperature plastics are used.
Wear Strip Caps
Snap-on UHMW polyethylene strip caps are also available from stock. These are used with stainless steel support rods to reduce friction with the conveying surface. The caps are USDA approved for use in food processing applications.
Custom-Designed Configurations for Product Transport and Positioning
Today’s complex automated equipment in the food processing, bakery, confectionary, electronics, and manufacturing industries often cause tough product handling problems between processes. Among the wide variety of proprietary processing equipment, there is no universal standard for belt widths. This often creates a need to spread or converge products as they move between processes.
In response to these in-line handling and conveying challenges, Wire Belt Company offers you custom designed spreader conveyors and converger conveyors. These are simple, positively driven transport conveyors that use narrow width stainless steel belt. Gentle product handling minimizes potential damage to fragile products. Rows of belt run over a food quality, high density polyethylene (HDPE) support surface, driven by a series of stainless steel sprockets for highly sanitary transport.
The standard design is a “fan type” spreader or converger, as shown, which positions products evenly on either side of the conveyor centerline. A variety of other configurations are available to meet other product positioning needs. (For example, the left edge orientation could remain constant, while the product spreads toward the right edge.) Application examples include: food processing equipment such as fryers, coaters, and freezers; bakery equipment such as chocolate coating machines; automated in-line packaging equipment; and spray painting or cleaning of plastic or metal components.

Innovative Solutions For Tough Transport Challenges
Today’s complex automated equipment in food processing, bakery, confectionery, electronics and automotive manufacturing facilities often create tough product handling problems between processes. There are no universal standards for belt widths, sometimes making it difficult to integrate product movement from one in-line process to the next. Certain processes require that products be repositioned on the belt before the next processing stage can occur.
And in some established plants, floor space is at a premium, requiring transporting conveyors that can turn corners and negotiate steep inclines and declines.
In response to these types of in-line handling challenges, Wire Belt Company offers a variety of reliable, versatile specialty conveyors that meet specific application requirements. These straight, turning, spreading or converging transport conveyors are custom designed to solve difficult product moving problems. They answer today’s need for dependable equipment that is hygienic, cost-effective and easy to maintain.

When applications require “special handling” of complex products… such as maintaining product separation, minimizing points of contact, or keeping the product aligned, you need a Specialty Belt from Wire Belt Company. These specialty conveyor belts are custom designed and manufactured to customers’ exact specifications for such diverse applications as: automotive brake pads, electronic circuit boards, chocolates, bagels, and snack foods.
Compound Belts
These Specialty Belts incorporate specially formed strands (called “flights”) in pre-determined locations in the basic flat belt. These are typically used to help move product up or down an incline, or to support, separate or minimize contact between products. The pattern of flights can be designed to create virtual “pockets” that totally isolate easily damaged products. Four types/shapes of flights (see illustration) up to 1 inch in height are used in most applications.
Aligned Belts
These belts utilize rows of flights to permit control and separation of delicate products to minimize damage and waste. In this configuration, all strands are crimped in the same manner throughout the belt length. However, the number of rows and the spacing can be varied. The height of these product guides is available up to .50 inches.
Crowned Belts
Since belts may curl under high heat, belts can be pre-stressed in the opposite direction to maintain a flat surface during operation. Reverse crowns are used for “hold down” applications, such as the conveyorized frying process. The crown depth can be varied depending on the application.
Open Structure 90 Turning Conveyor
The open structure of the conveying surface permits maximum flow through for washing and draining operations, product cooling, and removal of excess debris.
The Flex-Turn Series 300 is available in a choice of all stainless steel construction or a combination of stainless and high density polyethelene (HDPE) to reduce conveying friction.
Field-proven, dependable Wire Belt Flat-Flex power turning units gently convey products in process around corners while maintaining proper product alignment. The economical Series 300 is unique among Flat-Flex units for its open structure conveying surface. The Series 300 design facilitates washing and draining operations and permits easy visual inspection of the entire conveying area.
This open structure flexible conveyor also allows processing debris to fall through the mesh for easy capture and disposal.
Like all Flat-Flex conveyors, the compact Series 300 utilizes a unique, tapered pitch Flat-Flex wirebelt which is positively driven to eliminate slipping and tracking problems. The belt does not collapse on itself to form a radius, greatly reducing the potential for product damage. Direction of travel may be either left or right. Standard height is adjustable from 36″ to 40″ with custom heights available at an additional cost.
The Flex-Turn Series 300 is initially available for 90 turns, featuring a 16″ inside turning radius. Choices of standard belt widths include 10″, 16″, 24″, 34″, 42″ and 50″. The unit is constructed of stainless steel, with a belt support surface of either stainless steel rails or stainless rails capped with high density polyethylene wear strips. Grooved nosebars may be substituted for the standard transfer rollers. These units are typically free standing, but may also be incorporated into adjoining conveyor framework or suspended from ceilings.
Product Specifications
Flat-Flex XT offers you an alternative to balanced-weave belts for medium-duty processing applications. Flat-Flex XT has lower belt mass than balanced weave belting styles which results in lower power consumption, faster processes, and more product thru-put.
The strength of the Flat-Flex XT comes from the “Z-bend” joints in the wire mesh. As a rule, the greater the number of joints across the width of the flexible conveyor belt, the stronger the belt.
The spacing layout on the XT features more belt joints in a given belt width than the comparable original Flat-Flex belt. This unique design better distributes the operating stresses among the belt joints for less severe “cyclic loading” or metal fatigue.
Wire Belt now offers the new patented C-CureEdge option on most flexible conveyor Flat-Flex belts. The Patented C-shaped endloops have many advantages that will increase safety and improve productivity in your facility. C-CureEdge will not tangle during shipment, storage, or installation.
It will not snag or catch on another belt during operation or movement of equipment from one position to another. These two factors alone will save you time and repairs. Bottom line this makes your facility safer, more productive, and more cost effective.
